Singapore Raises Work Permit Employment Age from 1 July 2026: What Employers Need to Know

Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) will implement new age limits for Work Permit holders from 1 July 2026, giving employers greater flexibility to retain experienced foreign workers for a longer period.

The changes follow Singapore’s planned increase in the statutory retirement age for local employees from 63 to 64 years old. As the maximum employment age for Work Permit holders is linked to the local retirement age, employers will also see corresponding adjustments to Work Permit eligibility.

What Is Changing?

From 1 July 2026, the following age limits will apply:

  • Existing Work Permit holders: Maximum employment age increases from 63 to 64 years old.
  • New Work Permit applicants: Maximum application age increases from 61 to 62 years old.

These revised limits apply to eligible Work Permit holders across the relevant sectors regulated by the Ministry of Manpower.
