Taiwan Launches NT$100,000 Birth Benefit Program to Support Families (Effective Jan 1, 2026)

Big news for parents and soon‑to‑be parents in Taiwan:

Starting January 1, 2026, the government will offer up to NT$100,000 per child in combined maternity benefits and cash subsidy to help families with the rising costs of raising children. This initiative is part of Taiwan’s broader effort to address its declining birth rate and make family support more meaningful and accessible.

What the Program Offers

Under the new plan introduced by Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor (MOL), eligible female workers will receive:

  • Existing labor insurance maternity benefits (as provided under current law).
  • An additional childbirth subsidy funded directly by the government budget.
  • In total, families will receive NT$100,000 per child — If the maternity benefit portion is lower, the government subsidy will make up the difference so the total reaches NT$100,000 per birth.

Who Can Benefit

  • Female Taiwanese workers insured under labor insurance.
  • Foreign spouses of Taiwanese citizens with legal residency who are eligible to apply for maternity benefits.
  • The benefit will be automatically issued by the Bureau of Labor Insurance together with maternity benefits — no separate application required, making the process simple and efficient.

Why This Matters

Taiwan has been facing a declining birth rate, and this support measure aims to ease some of the financial pressures associated with childbirth. By boosting financial support and streamlining access, the government hopes to encourage more families to consider expanding their households.
