Vietnam Social Security (VSS) has announced that monthly and hourly minimum wages for workers under labour contracts will be increased effective 1 January 2026. This change comes under Decree No. 293/2025/ND‑CP, issued by the Government on 10 November 2025, replacing previous wage regulations.
The new minimum wages aim to improve workers’ living standards while ensuring that businesses can continue to operate sustainably and maintain productivity.
New Monthly and Hourly Minimum Wages by Region
The government has adjusted minimum wages differently for each of the four regions, reflecting variations in local economic conditions. The updated wages are as follows:
| Region | Monthly Minimum Wage (VND) | Hourly Minimum Wage (VND/hour) |
|---|---|---|
| I | 5,310,000 | 25,500 |
| II | 4,730,000 | 22,700 |
| III | 4,140,000 | 20,000 |
| IV | 3,700,000 | 17,800 |
Compared to the previous rates, these increases range from 250,000 VND to 350,000 VND per month, depending on the region, and corresponding adjustments were made to hourly rates.
Implications for Workers and Employers
For workers, the wage adjustment represents a meaningful increase in income, helping them manage rising living costs and improve overall quality of life. For businesses, the gradual increase provides time to plan budgets and manage labour costs, supporting long-term growth without placing undue strain on operations.
Officials note that this policy reflects Vietnam’s ongoing effort to balance economic growth with worker welfare, ensuring a stable and competitive labour market nationwide.
Looking Ahead
As Vietnam continues to develop its economy, periodic adjustments to minimum wages are expected to remain an essential tool for protecting employees while sustaining business operations. Companies operating in the country are encouraged to stay informed about wage policies to ensure compliance and maintain fair treatment of their workforce.
